Students Shine at Annual Sports Day

On a warm summer’s day, close to 400 students in Year 9 and 10 had tremendous fun taking part in our annual Sports Day.

A highlight of the year for staff and for our bugging young athletes, who enjoyed competing against one another in a range of sporting activities.

In the morning, Year 9s played benchball, rounders and basketball, while the Year 10s tackled netball, football and dodgeball. There was a terrific standard on show and all the matches were played in a highly competitive, yet supportive, spirit.

Students had the chance to add to their overall school with a sports-themed quiz in the middle of the day. In what was a real treat, they were also visited by Bekah Walton, a British track and field athlete who is a multiple-time national champion in javelin.

Hailing from neighbouring Derbyshire, Bekah spoke about her career, detailing the highs and lows and gave students an insight into what it takes to enjoy a successful sporting career. They listened in intently and posed some excellent questions.

On the event as a whole, Head of PE Mrs Hinchcliffe said: “Staff and students love this event and it is something that everyone looks forward to.

“The engagement and buzz from the day were a highlight as everyone had a great time,” she continued.

“The staff relay race was a great end to the day with Mr Fsarpong stealing the show!”

We look forward to another glorious day of sport next year!
